From the same ongoing project of recreating Dick’s 70s style covers.
I followed the same steps, outline, colored and then created the typo.
Only this time, back in Photoshop I also added a liquid filter to the image.
How to make an Illustration from a Portrait
You can make a quick illustration from a portrait in very easy way.
I recommend to work with a big canvas and high resolution (7000px and 300ppp). We’ll use a white layer in the bottom and 10 pixels black wide Brush Tool.
With Photoshop, create the outline with the Pen Tool (P) and stroking the path with the Brush Tool, trying to make it as close as you can. Several layers can be used, where you can paint one over another and erase without messing up with other layers. It’s nice if you group the layers in folders.
Once you are finished with the outline, group all the layers (Ctrl+Shift+E/Command+Shift+E) export the file in TIFF format descarting the layers and with LZW compression.
Now in Illustration, we open the file and use the Live Trace Tool with the default options in Comic mode. You can play with this options if you want something different.
Once traced, we expand and ungroup everything. Now we can group the parts we want to have the same color (Ctrl+G/Command+G) and the assign them a color for the path and the fill.
This might be the very best work I have done until I am writing this up. And probably It’s also the one with more hours in it.
In Photoshop I created the outline from the original cover with the pen tool.
In Illustrator I colored and added some shadows and brights.
Then back in Photoshop, I created the titles. Since the typo were too old I decided to just make every single letter myself. I also added the editorial sign in the top.
My very first animation.
I used a rotoscoping animation method. With After Effects i took 8 fps from a home video then outlined and colored in Photoshop one by one up to 32. Then back at After Effects I created the animation.

From tv show The Big Bang Theory, character Sheldon Coopers decides to make a virtual mobile device of himself. Since it was pretty funny i decided to give it a try.
